take a second

These days, it is unfortunate that almost everyone knows of someone who currently has cancer, has beaten cancer, or has lost their life to cancer.
In 2010, the United States population was about 308,745,538.
In 2010, cancer hit 1,529,560 people.
About 1 out of every 200 people were diagnosed with cancer last year.
Of those, 569, 490 lost their lives.
That turns out to be about 1 out of every 3 people with cancer died last year.
This means that, just last year, 1 out of every 500 people died because of cancer.

Those are all sad facts though. Here is a much happier one:
Since Relay for Life began in 1985, the event has so far raised more than 3.5 billion dollars.

I hope you realize how amazing this is, that we live in a country where average American people would donate over 3.5 billion of their hard-earned money over the past 25 years to stop this terrible disease.

Take a second to think of someone whose life has been changed because of cancer. In honor/memory of that person, please make a donation for them. It's the least we can do.

Thank you <3

frige makeover

My new fav book? The Family Chef: Make Your Kitchen the Heart of Your Family

In it, I learned that it does take effort to eat healthy. Keeping your refrigerator clean and appealing is a very important part. When you open the fridge, you want to eat what you see. If what you see is in dingy plastic tupperware and tin foil, the food you're looking for might not look too appetizing.

This book has taught me the importance of glass. By putting items in glass containers, the fridge looks better. Don't believe me? Fine, but it's true!

Today I went to the grocery store and bought tons of fruits and veggies. Among them there were blackberries. When I got home, I took the blackberries and washed them.
Then, I put them in glass jars with lids and put them in the fridge. This way, they were all washed and ready to eat! I had some for dessert tonight.. definitely yummy!

the B word

I want a baby.

But I don't want a baby.

...ya know?

Like, I see how cute they are, and I'm really curious how a mixture of me and Ryan will look. I want to take tons and tons of pictures and post them on my blog and take videos and dress it up wicked cute for Halloween (even though I hate the holiday) and Christmas and Easter! I want to brag to everyone about how my kid knows sign language and learned Spanish at the same time it learned English!

But I don't want the stretch marks. And the expenses. And the stuff that happens to my boobs. And I'm not looking forward to moving (again) and never sleeping again and trying to balance my in-laws and parents with my kid, and finding a babysitter, and the crying and the pooping and the barfing! And I want to do a natural birth but I have like ZERO pain tolerance! Ughh I don't want a baby.

But I do. Just not now.

...ya know?

field trip

It was 9:55 a.m. when I looked at the clock, and Ryan and I were just laying in bed, not wanting to get out of it. I realized I overslept my Zumba class (bummer!). So Ryan suggested we go into Boston! I was like HELLS YES! We decided to go to the Museum of Fine Arts, and as a bonus, we got in free since we are Bank of America members! And by the way, I love taking the T. I feel so city :)

I personally hate looking at paintings. I'm more of an artifacts kinda girl. The first part of the museum we went to was the Ancient Egypt section, which was my FAVORITE! The Ancient Greece section was pretty cool too. The things in there weren't really art... they were ancient artifacts from like 3000 BC (not an exaggeration!). The oldest artifact we found in the museum was a piece of pottery from the 5th millennium BC. I wish I got a picture of it, but just picture an orange fat vase that looks like it was made 5000 years before Christ was born.

I didn't think you could bring a camera, so I didn't. Dumb me. But I used my semi-okay camera on my phone. Here are some of the things I learned today: A sculpture of Emperor Augustus
The coffin of Princess Henettway of Thebes (Egypt) from 1070 BC

It's kind of hard to see, but there are 4 separate coffin things here, each one getting bigger as it goes back. That's because they take the body, put it in the smallest one, then put that coffin in the next biggest, and so on until it ends up in that big box in the back of the picture!

I took this off the plaque under the statue: The largest sculpture found in Egypt's Old Kingdom! It was found in Giza and from somewhere between 2490 and2472 BC! It's from the smallest of the Giza pyramids.

passing time

I've been snowed in for three days now, and to pass time, I will show you how crazy my brain is getting! Luckily Bev's school was canceled today because there is too much snow on the roof, so we are going to go shopping later. But for now, here you go.. Putting my Elementary Education skills to work.

There is too much snow outside.
I can't shovel it all, I've tried.
For the past three days,
I've been in a haze,
And I'm pretty sure our grass has died.
I really just don't understand
The ice on the snow on the land.
There is way too much snow,
And on top there's ice, ya know,
It makes it very hard to stand.
When I try to walk I slip.
If I was old, I'd break a hip.
It won't come up with a shovel,
I'm in big trouble!
Our driveway has a really steep dip.
I hope you liked my story.
And about the snow, do not worry.
But I'm bored all day,
Since inside I must stay,
So excuse me, I'm going to watch Maury.
Just joking, I don't like that show.
It's really white trash, you know.
I really need to shower,
It's been 2 days and an hour,
Since I've cleaned from my head to my toe.
Sorry, that's really disgusting.
I promise, my tub is not rusting.
I shower each day,
In the normal clean way,
All the while, outside there's a dusting.
Yes, let's get back to the weather.
My poor shoes that are made out of leather,
They are covered with salt,
But it's not my fault!
Let's get rid of this ice together.

it gets me every time!

So I love Friends. And I'm watching all the seasons through for the fourth time now, and every time I get to this episode I seriously laugh so hard! It's the episode called The One With Joey's New Brain, and Ross wants to play the bagpipes for Monica and Chandler's wedding. I searched and searched and FINALLY found the clip online! Now I don't know who gave this video 3 out of 5 stars, but anyways, enjoy :)
